Mousing for large Brown Trout at night is a favorite way for diehard anglers to hook into some of the largest fish they will ever see. Big browns, especially in pressured water, often orient their feeding patterns around darkness in order to avoid exposure to predators. Fishing at night has become a no brainer for anglers willing to confront the elements and lose hours of sleep.

Glowing flies are critical to nighttime sucess for one major reason. They allow you to see where you are fishing. This allows the angler to stay out of bushes and trees, track the speed and position of their flies, and watch for that glowing bug to dissapear as they hear a big gulp of a nocturnal gator mouthed brown. Humans are visual "hunters" just like trout, and so we need visual cues to successfuly pursure huge nighttime browns.

How is the Duraglow Mouse any different than glowing mice already on the market?

-Durability. This is the main reason why this is the mouse you should buy over other glowing mice on the market. Most glowing mice being sold to anglers use a glowing paint that is applied to a foam tab. While these flies work great and glow brightly, there is one glaring problem. Foam tabs and sharp brown trout teeth do not get along well. Using a piece of flimsy foam is a one way ticked to a destroyed fly. Oftentimes at night, trout slash at their prey, and missing fish is fairly common. Each time those mega sharp teeth touch a less-than-durable glow material, you lose visibility and decrease your chances of finding a trophy brown. My mice sometimes use the glowing paint as an addition, but they ALWAYS use a highly durable square of high glowing latex as the sighter. These glow tabs are incredibly bright, and glow for hours when charged with a UV tying light. I also use high quality glues under all of my materials, and apply resin over my thread wraps. My goal is for your flies to last you fish after fish, night after night.

-Orientation on impact with water. While long and fancy articulated mouse flies with ears and fancy legs and tails are nice looking and catch the eye of anglers, they do almost nothing for anglers in terms of fish-ability. using one tab of thick foam on top of the fly, and a single counterweight of the streamer stripper hook, this fly lands correctly every single time. Watch the video on the description. Often, simple is best, and these simple mice land right-side-up every single time. You'll never have a bogus cast where your fly is upsidedown, invisible to you.

-Simplicity. I'll cut to the chase. Your mouse doesn't need a tail. It doesn't need eyes or ears or anything fancy. It needs thick foam to float, a high visibility glowing sighter, and a design that pushes water. The foam lip of my mice pushes water, and the fur beneath the foam combined with the simple legs increases the wake and water movement. Browns use their lateral line more at night, and although you certainly don't need a popper or gurgler level of "push" for your flies, you should have a wake behind them. These guys do a perfect job of that.

The hook used is a FullingMill FM6040 Streamer Stripper in size 4. If you fish streamers and mice, you know there’s a fine line between sticky sharp wire that generates a ton of hookups, and large diameter wire that is really strong, but too thick to consistently hook up with fish. Luckily, this hook gives you both of those things. It’s also teflon coated to reduce rust. Simply put, it’s a legendary big fish hook that’s sticky sharp as can be.
